In South Carolina’s public dove fields, hunters shoot a very large percent of the annual harvest on opening days, but there are good hunts on the second and occasionally the third hunt day of the early season — with far fewer hunters.

What about the holiday season wrapped around Thanksgiving and the late season in December and January? Late-season action depends on migrating birds and available food. Biologist Billy Dukes listed a few of the public fields that traditionally offer some late-season action; Santee Dam WMA and Oak Lea WMA in Clarendon County; Bordeaux Works in McCormick County; Botany Bay Plantation in Charleston County (reserved for youth hunts all season); Pee Dee Station in Florence County and Bass Road in Abbeville County.
