The weekend of Dec. 13 will be remembered by about 15 combat-experienced Marines for the rest of their lives. They will be the honored guests of the Beaufort chapter of Ducks Unlimited and a consortium of private plantations in the area.

The hunt began a few years ago when DU partnered with the Marine Air Station and plantation owners who had been volunteering their properties for a special community outreach deer hunt each October for about 10 years to add a day of duck hunting to their schedules. Marines are selected by lottery; they hunt at one of six selected plantations and feast on food and fun for two days.

The local DU chapter holds a banquet in conjunction with the hunts the evening of Dec. 13. For information, call 843-812-8985.
