Anglers in both Carolinas are currently fishing in their respective states’ Governor’s Cup Billfishing Tournaments. North Carolina’s began May 9 at Hatteras Village and will run through May 13. South Carolina’s began May 10 at Bohicket and will also run through May 13. So far, it’s been an exciting tournament in both states, with multiple billfish being brought to the docks and plenty of others being released.

Angler Ian Hoffman and the crew of Carterican boated a 578.6-pound blue marlin during the first fishing day of the North Carolina event. Terry Young, fishing on Goombay, landed a 466.7-pound blue marlin.

Day Two of the North Carolina tournament did not see any billfish brought to the scales, but six blue marlin were released along with one white marlin.

On South Carolina’s first day of their tournament, Game On, Rare Breed, and Home Run all boated blue marlins. Game On’s 500-pound blue marlin topped the day, followed by Home Run’s 438-pound blue marlin. Rare Breed’s blue marlin weighed 412-pounds. Numerous other blue marlin were released throughout the day by several boats, and Dem Boys hooked and released the only white marlin of Day One.

Day Three is now underway for the North Carolina event, while the South Carolina anglers are currently on their second fishing day. The champions of both events will be crowned this weekend.
