QDMA program for novice deer hunters is this weekend

Two-day program in Fuquay-Varina will provide plenty of instruction

QDMA's "Deer Camp" will be held this weekend at Drake Landing outside Fuquay-Varina.
The Cape Fear River branch of the Quality Deer Management Association will hold hunter-education event this weekend designed to give novice deer hunters a leg up on next season.

“Deer Camp” at Drake Landing in Fuquay-Varina will be held May 4-5. Students will receive instruction to give them hunting knowledge on a variety of topics, including: deer biologist, deer herd and habitat management, scouting techniques, tree stand choice and placement, call and scent use, using different weapons, tracking, shot placement and basic deer processing. Interactive workshops will be included, along with field work, a gun-safety class, work on the range and a mentored, simulated deer hunt. Students will have a wild-game dinner on Saturday night.

The cost to attend is $125 for adults and $100 for youth under age 17. Youth attending must be accompanied by a participating adult. For more information, call Judy Gardner at 919-552-9449.
