The tournament-leading Viking 62 caught and released a blue marlin on Wednesday’s third day of the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament, when one billfish was brought to the scales.
Reel Pleasure, captained by Jeff Kinyo, hooked up with a 451.8-pound blue marlin at 10:29 a.m. After a fight of almost four hours, the marlin was boated, and it was weighed in at the Big Rock scales along the Morehead City waterfront at 7:14 p.m. The marlin was the fifth-largest of the tournament but is leading the outboard division.
Vikings 62 remains in the lead with three days remaining. Most of the 149-boat field did not fish on Tuesday due to rough seas, but most fished on Wednesday, when 13 blue marlin were caught and released and four white marlin were caught and released.
The tournament, in its 57th year, offers a purse of better than $1.6 million.
