Very proud of both my 9 year old boy and my 7 year old girl. I took them on their very first turkey hunt on opening day for youth. We left Raleigh around 4:45 am and traveled to a farm near Trenton. They both did great. We were able to get set up and call in a 2 year old tom. Both of the kids sat very still and quiet. This enabled us to watch the turkey put on a show at around 20 yards for 8 minutes or so. The turkey worked around to our left which was on my daughter's side. She lined up and took the shot. She unfortunately learned the hard way, to keep her face away from the receiver on a shotgun, it cost her a bruised cheek and a tooth, but at least it was a baby tooth. The hunt lasted less than an hour, but we all made memories and learned lessons that will last a life time.

    Specs
We were so excited that we forgot to weigh the bird. The spurs are 3/4' and the beard was 9'. The bird was probably around 17-18 pounds.

    WAY to GO
Way to go!!! I know first hand how hard it is to keep a young one quiet and still in the blind.I take my grandaughter hunting with me and its a challenge. Hopefully she will get to go turkey hunting with me,I won't tell her about the lost tooth your daughter got from her gun, lol. But she will love to hear this great story,as I did.Congrats to your daughter and son.And to you also on taking the time to let them experience a great hunt.

    Congratulations
Wow that had to be very special! Congratulations to girl power. I couldn't tell if there was a ground blind involved or not but, if you pulled this off without one you guys ready did well.
    Great job DAD!

    No blind
Thanks for the kind words. We were not using a blind. The first picture with them on the ground is how we were set up except I was behind them. I don't think either one of them had ever sat that still in their life. My daughter aimed and pulled the trigger, but my son helped me carry the gear and set up the decoy, so we are dividing the fan, spurs, and beard between them and calling it both of their bird. They are both wanting to go again, so I hope to be able to get them on another bird before the end of the year.

    Way to Go!
Great job on a fantastic hunt. You all will always remember that hunt for sure. Nothing more special than family hunting together and when they are this young it means so much for the rest of their lives. Better than the bird it sounds like was the memory of the hunt. Best to you the remainder of this season.
