    Can you believe this? video
My son, just turned 15, has out grown his bow. He has grown so much this year. When we bought this bow last summer, it was perfect. We have since changed the draw several times and maxed the poundage. He is a great shot, winning his class in most his 3d tourneys. When he asked if I would allow him to shoot this buck, I was hesitant because this type buck usually gets a pass. He has let many this size go. But because he is still a kid, I said yes because I knew his new video camera he saved for was the driving force in his wanting to shoot him. So, he practiced all week at 40 and 50 yds. He was dialed in. Saturday, I oversaw the shooting of his broadheads at this yardage. He was ready. His bow is super quiet, unrealized by the video sound, so I conceded he was ready. He texted me once he came into view where I coached him to take his time, one last time. When he texted back to say he was back after missing, him jumping the string, I told him not to try again because if he jumped the string the first time, he surely would the second. After 30 minutes of him staying around, I agreed that he should be relaxed. He took his time once more, going through his mental checklist to make the shot. His shots were right on. But his bow to slow. It was not quiet enough for a 42 yard shot. He did well filming too.

I rarely ever leave a negative comment on this site. But i'm slightly torn as to why a bow set would be setup for a 40-50yd shot. I've been bow hunting my whole life and can say that I've taken 50+ yd shots but they are never ideal, and if and when that time comes i am sure of my equipment and what its capable of. To see the deer wounded not once but twice is nothing to be proud or bragging about. Plain and simple the bow isn't a 40+yd bow...its a 20-30yd bow max. Esp on a deer that is that cautious and spooky out in the open. Part of bow hunting is getting close to your prey. Making a proper set up where the deer has no choice but to be up close and personal. The video footage was good and it really does suck that your kid didn't get him. But he should know that trying a deer at that range leads to errors more times than not. However i can say that I've always learned more from my mistakes in the woods than my success. Try a different set up and i'm sure he will have better results.

Agree with you Mac86 - this young man's range should prob. be set up much less than 40+ yards, esp. after 2 non-lethal hits. It looks like he's got the accuracy but arrow isn't getting there near quick enough. Good to hear they are diligent in pursuing the buck rest of season...
