I had a great time meeting some of the members of the site at last years classic as well as the other moderators.Hopefully no fist fights will break out, lol.just kidding,I'm sure we'll all have a great time.

Me
My Trophies
As I have said in the past...I myself have never had a deer scored...It just doesn't matter to me what they score, I saw him, He looked nice by my standards so I shot him...Plain and simple!! I have matured over the years and have let some deer walk that I'm sure most hunters wouldn't but If I'm not going to at least honor his life with a European mount then I just don't shoot many bucks anymore. Don't get me wrong, I have my 'Wall of Shame' from yesteryear lol, But On cold winter days like today, I like to look at my mounts and re-live each hunt...It's those memories that mean the most to me...Not how much he scored...I do however agree with the Full Credit Scoring System for Guys that are about Score...I mean...he grew every inch, I think he should be given credit for every inch!! My self proclaimed Trophies are just that!, My Trophies!! Most Guys wouldn't even shoot what I call a decent Deer and I know the T.V. Guys wouldn't unless they wanted to Cull them from the herd lol
bought the surburban from a friend of mine several yrs ago, he had it painted camo, looks like they used reeds and sprayed over them, looks pretty good fading somewhat now. it's a 2500 3/4 ton tank..lol. thanks for compliment on sons 6 pt. if he don't go to the classic i'm gonna carry him just to see what they score him. i'm with ya 100 % it's the thrill of the hunt and great memories and not just what's growing on top of the deers head. i agree also if he grows it how in the world can you take it away because differences in side to side..lol
Yep, That's all I was trying to say joco and I bet that Suburban LOVES the Fuel huh? Camo looks cool on it...lol I used to Catfish with a co-worker who had a 1/2 Ton 2 wheel drive and he had a Pontoon decked out for cat-Fishing and I think you could see the Gas hand going down as we went to the Lake or River lol...It had a 350 but must have been the way it was geared? Hope to see ya at the Classic...That 6 point will be easy to spot lol
I don't think that the score has to be a major factor in your pride of a buck harvested but I do think it can be a good thing to have deer scored to help a hunter be a better judge what he/she is looking at. Far too many times hunters sound ridiculous with their inflated estimates - not trying to be rude but it's true. For a buck to start tipping 150 he pretty much has to start with main beams that are 23 inches long, 30 inches of tine (one side's brow tine, G2, G3, G4), decent mass and very little deductions.
I won't say that I don't care at all about the score cuz if I ever took one down that was large enough I would sure be trying to get my name in the books. Until that happens, I'm very happy to get a buck that looks nice to me regardless of how high the score is.
I hear want you say Jutin about inflated estimates. It's easy to do until you get a little education about it.
One thing I've learned is it takes a lot of horn to break the 130 mark much less the 150 mark. A 120 looks impressive walking in when I'm high in the tree but the ground check will bring you back to earth!
As GT said a Trophy is personal and can't be measured in inches!
Porkchop
Will be ready for the classic!!
I plan on going and bringing the buck I got this year
It be on that Saturday me and a couple friends!!
Should be fun I have never been the other guys have
And ready to get a accurate score on my buck my deer is ready in about two weeks and I'm exited to get it back hope to see you guys up there!!
Hey GT - I'm with ya on the scoring. I just want to see these monsters in person! For anyone who doesn't understand what I mean, just come out east and hunt east of Hwy 32 in Beaufort, Hyde, Tyrrell Co. What we call a monster would get eaten by yours! That's why I'm trying to hunt some game lands in bigger-buck territory. :)
My buddy shared a story with me: A guy he knows went hunting in the mid-west. Shot a GREAT buck. Comes home. Gets it scored by his taxidermist, and finds out it scores lower than he hoped. He became totally dejected. The taxidermist is like 'Dude! Be happy - that's a MONSTER!' But the guy walks out with his head hung a little too low for such a buck. Unless he had just lost a 10,000 dollar bet on it, I'd have been happy!
Hey Hawkman my cousin doers all my taxidery work and mounts deer from all over the country and canada. He said if you were to go shoot a 150 or 160 in another state that you would never be happy hunting at home again. I'm just happy that I arrowed a gross 129 5/8 in NC. I'll keep the 5 grand in my pocket for now!
P.S. Hope to see some members at the NC Sportsman booth on Saturday around noon!
I hope to come to the classic, though I didn't get a nice rack this year to score. I guess I could bring one of my older ones, though. I too, think it would be cool to meet you all at a designated location at a certain time. I just hope they have a tall and wide entrance door. Some of those racks yall got are huge. I'm sure those heads aren't the only ones that will have a hard time fitting thru! LOL Mine especially!
We should come up with a printable logo, saying something like 'North Carolina Sportsman Forum Varmints' and pin on our caps. That way we could promote our discussion forum and be easily picked out by our cohorts!
Hopefully, no one would be holding a grudge over some of our sometimes heated discussions! LOL If someone on here had a booth, then that would be a good meet spot. I vote Diane our group president!
