Not a shot I recommend unless you practice it. I\'ve been practicing this 100 yard shot for 3 years now. Some of you members may have seen my video on the new bow strings I put on my 7 year old Hoyt TrykonXL this year. New strings out of the box with very little practice I hit 4 for 4 on a 3-D target at 100 yards. A little more shooting and tweaking of my right left windage and I was.... Read More
This is a video that I shot and edited. Before anyone says anything, I will be the first to say this is not a shot to take unless you are dead confident with your abilities. This is a shot taken and discussed in a few archery circles. This is very educational for beginner archers, because you can see how easy it is to miss this shot. This doe was double lunged and shot through the heart..... Read More
Well today was opening day of gun season here in the southeast and once again I found myself helping get the population under control on this farm. Wildlife officials say that 50 deer need to go. I've been blessed with 7 of them so far and they won't go to waist, that's for sure. I shot the first one with the bow and on film for a very good friend that is having some serious medical.... We went this morning and I handed a parking ticket out to a doe but my son didn't see anything. I thought it was too hot this afternoon but my son really wanted to go so guess what - we did. Got in the stands @ 4 and about 6:45 he text me that he just shot a doe. I told him to sit tight and I'd come to him when I got down at dark. When I got down I went to the house, got the 4wheeler, and.... Read More
HELLO GENTS! I'm new to the forum and NC hunting so hang in there. After a futile preseason effort of hustling and driving all over creation to shake hands with farmers and landowners (seems like every farm or landowner in the state is leased out) I am focusing more on public land now (specifically Alcoa Game Lands) for the fact that they have the 6 day hunting schedule. I am not looking to.... Read More
Has anyone had a mech broad head not open on impact. I shot a deer last Saturday with no blood trail. I hit it a little far back in the small intestines. The small rubber band was at the back near vain. Does this mean it did not open all the way when it passed through the deer or is this the location where the rubber band should end up. Spent Sun and Mon searching for him, no luck.
Live in Charlotte. Moved from NY to South Florida now in Charlotte. Love it here and all that this area has to offer. Really believe I was born in the wrong part of the country. Was a recon marine now I teach for the school system.
Recently started shooting a compound bow. I love it. Shoot in my backyard at targets all day. Getting accurate. Here's my dilemma. I want to try bow hunting..... Read More
Need some help guys... So I take all my shots from a seated position, about 12-15' high. Shots range from 20-25 yards. All of my arrows keep sailing high. Like right over they back. On opening day I took my first shot at a doe and zip right over her back. Next doe a lil later I compensated for it by aiming like a FOOT below her with my 20yard pin even though she was at 23 yards. Perfect.... Read More
Second times a charm....Doe number 3! I sat this bean field the first time a week ago and had a old man on a bicycle ride down the field edge to try to get a closer look at a doe feeding in the beans. He didn't even know I was there, when he stopped 50 feet from me and the doe ran off. I didn't say anything because I know the guy and know he was just trying to enjoy the years he has left..... This is the 8 minute video of Opening Day. Only one deer was harmed in the making of this video (and it\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s not on the video) but you can hear it run into the ladder stand. These Rage 2 Blade Chisel Tips were extensively test for impacts with the dirt....lol! You can.... Read More
The first doe was shot off camera so here is the video of the second doe from opening afternoon. She didn't quiet get to the dinner table but, paused long enough while following a spike buck and a yearling doe for me to get the shot off. Too bad the camera would not focus after the shot but I watched her fold up 80 yards away.
I call this hunt the Cinderella Opener. In the past nine years I have found myself on the side of a tree watching the sunrise on opening bow day but, not this year. This year I had to finish up some work and return rental equipment. I knew the major move time was to be between 1:30pm and 3:30pm so I didn't get too bummed out.
My buddy had a ladder stand on a feeder that I was to.... Read More
Twas' the night before bow season and all through the house, everyone was scurrying, even the mouse! The washer was washing the hunting clothes to kill scent and mom was wondering where the money all went. As I nervously replied that it went for some hunting stuff, she turned away without even a huff! She to remembered September last year, when I started bringing home all kinds of deer. Back.... I'm looking for some reviews or thoughts on crossbows. My father has been disabled since early 90s and now he wants to get out and try some hunting with me. But he can't pull a compound bow. I know nothing about crossbows so thought I would ask some of you who shoots them. What's a good one? I'm looking to spend about $1000. So any help would be great. Thanks in advance. Jason.
I shot this video after having my bow-smith put the new Flightwire by First String, strings and cables on my Hoyt TrykonXL. I chronographed this set up at 294fps. I\\\'m not making excuses but I have not shot my bow since the end of Turkey season.I shot 4 arrows two rounds at 55 yards and 1 round at 30 yards to make sure my sight tape was close and then shot this video. I was pretty.... Read More
