November 22nd was a big day for me and my son. I guess you could say it started 6 years ago when I bought a two-man stand so that he could start tagging along with me on my hunts. He was with me when I shot my once in a lifetime buck, an 8 pointer that scored 135. He was also with me when we retreived the trailcam cards showing a large black bear setting up camp at our feeders for 2 days, not to....
I've been seeing this deer for around 5 weeks it's always been at night but last Tuesday morning I finally got a daytime picture it was at 9:40am.This morning I got in the stand around 7am and he passed through about 7:50am but he was deep in the brush and I couldn't get a shot. Then around 9am I had 4 does run through the woods and him chasing right behind. Then 9:30 one doe came back to....
On November 19,2014 in Stanly County my 10 year old boy had just got home from school and I had asked him if he wanted to go hunting, he told me no since he had just got a new Diary of the Wimpy kid book in the mail. I told him that he could bring the book because we were hunting a box stand. we didn't get to the stand until 4:00 pm at 4:30 we had a small doe enter the field. a few minutes....
I just got to the spot I was gonna sit at and I start to move a few limbs for shooting lanes and moving the leaves out of the way. So i set my chair up and sit. As soon as I sit down I hear something running. So I turn and this big buck is coming towards me, its a 20 yards and i shoot. A hundred yards away my trophy lays.
Left work an hour early to slip into a stand where my buddy saw this deer the same morning and let him walk. Just about sun down he came out of a draw broadside the whole time before I took the shot and stopped him in his tracks.
Anya shot her first deer a 10 pointer while hunting with her dad in Lenoir County on her grandfather's farm on 11-11-2014 Veterans Day. She shot the deer with her brothers rifle that she had only shot two times.
Finally, some antlers. My son has gone 2 years without seeing a descent buck. We hunt managed lands and that is tough for youngsters to do. I have to give my son credit for his ability to judge deer. He has passed on several smaller deer. Finally a descent shooter steps out and he scores. The largest for him, nothing can replace that smile on his face. A father's joy!!!
I shot this buck on Nov. 11 at about 730 am. This buck came in down wind of me from a place I would not have guessed a deer would be coming from. I was able to stand turn around and get a good 60 yard shot on him while he was walking through some thick cedar trees.
A 2 year relationship finally comes to a end around about 4:30pm . I passed this buck 6 times last year. He was a 130ish 9 pointer that had broke his right G3 during velvet. I decided then I would try to keep him alive. He exploded in one years time to a whopping 157 inches of giant antler.
I grunted this buck in! He headed across the bean field behind me. Trees were surrounding me and I did not have a shot. I grunted more trying to get him to stop and come back. There was a tiny opening between some trees. When he reached the opening I grunted as loud and hard I could, he stopped! I put the crosshairs on him and shot! He ran about 30-40 yards and dropped! I got down to look for....
