Kevin Boyce killed this nice main frame 8 with one kicker on November 23, 2012. This buck came in at 5:00 p.m. working its way through the swampy area he was hunting. After watching the buck feed a while, the buck opened himself up to a clear vital shot. Kevin shot the buck with his Remington Model 700 270 cal rifle using Hornady Custom 140 grain bullets. The buck went about 20 yards before.... Read More
My hunt started on the evening of Thursday, December 27th, 2012. My father and I were sitting in a soybean field in person county, North Carolina. The buck first appeared at about 5 o'clock and the sun was setting. He stepped out into the open and I said to my dad 'There is a big buck in the field directly in front of me.' We watched him for a few minutes as he ate and then another smaller buck.... Read More
10 year old Cody 'Tadpole' Acosta doubles up on Christmas Eve 2012 as he harvests these two does. During Cody's traditional Christmas Eve hunt he shot the first doe at 185 yards. The second doe was harvested 20 minutes later at 181 yards. Neither deer could handle the .243 round and dropped where they were shot. As Cody learned how to skin his deer he insisted that we donate them to Hunting for.... Read More
Got up this morning and was struggling with going hunting or sleeping in a little. But I finally got going and was hoping to see a couple does to take to my butcher. Got to my stand later than usual - the sun had just barely started to light the ground just enough for me to see without the aid of my headlight. When I got to my stand and started to climb it was around 6:50 or so.
I was about.... Read More
At 4:40 we had about a dozen does come in and I asked dad if I could shoot one because we hadnt been seeing many deer lately. He said they aint going no where so lets wait a few minutes. At 4:55 we saw this buck coming. He started chasing a doe around and he stopped about 60yds out quartering towards us and dad said take him. When I shot he took off and I was so happy to see him fall over about.... Read More
9 year old Cole Grant harvested this 15 point Buck while hunting in Cabarrus County with his father Brandon Grant. Cole has been hunting and fishing with his father and grandfather since he could walk. His dream is to be on the cover of the Sportsman Magazine one day. He loves reading it with his dad every month when it comes in the mail.
Last weekend this buck came slipping thru a thick area about 80yds from my stand and I took a shot on him when he stepped into a small opening.
I called my dad and told him I just shot at a nice buck. We looked and looked but could not find him so dad thought I had missed.
We went yesterday and were walking around and found the buck. He was pushed up under a mess of deadfall. My dad said he.... Read More
This 10 point was shot on November 24 at 5 pm.It was a very windy day and because of that I decided to carry a rifle instead of my bow. That turned out to be a good decision as the buck showed up at 90 yards following a doe.I had to practically yell at him to get him to stop because of a noisy wind gust.He fell on the spot and this deer took my last buck tag as I had already killed a 120' non.... Proof that the rut brings the big boys out during shooting hours and they let their guard down. Being in the right spot at the right time helps also. Missed this deer two days before i killed him. Went back in the same area but approx 500 yards from where i seen him at couple days before and was not there 30 minutes and he was on the move. Didnt make it far.
I was a little upset when i found out i had to work in Virginia the week of November 12-17... needless to say I was banking on Saturday the 17th to make up for lost time. By 8:30 am, I had already watched six different rut-crazed bucks cruise by and was really enjoying the action! This fine Randolph county eight pointer was the seventh buck to show himself and it took me one quick glance to.... Read More
Well everyone thinks that they have to kill every deer they see, but in fact the name of the game for big bucks is by deer management. I have been very fortunate to have met Joe Lasher, Founder of Backyard Bow Pro. He took me hunting on 11/30/12 and put me on a buck that he had been hunting for the 5 prevous days. Sitting there and at about 4:30 pm i hear a deer coming off the hill to my.... Read More
I just really got 'into' hunting this year and what a great way to start my hunting adventures. I got a good look at this seven point buck from about 125 yards away this morning and took a patient, first shot. Me and my stepdad got him to his house on the ATV and he weighed 175 pounds. Even through the afternoon I have been super excited. I can't wait for a hunting trip to Alabama we have.... Read More
Irdell Co isn't notourious for Big monster bucks, but after a very long and hard Bow season I was able to connect and harvest this big guy. It was the first friday morning of black powder, I was running a little late but went on to my stand anyway. Sitting there almost frustrated, He steps out into the hardwoods. As he starts towards me I was able to get on him, And now within 15 yards I make.... Read More
I hunted this buck hard throughout Bow season. I hunt in Irdell Co. and for those who know we dont have an over abuntant amount of BIG bucks, so I was really excited about him. On the first friday morning of black powder season he walked out onto a open white oak ridge. I was able to get on him as he came within 15 yards of my stand, I made the shot, and the 240 gr. hornady bullet did its job.... Read More
