Got to go hunt with a great friend once again this past week. Each time we went out was a great experience just to be in the woods witnessing nature first hand. I was blessed to take a nice doe with my crossbow, and am very thankful for the opportunity to have more meat in the freezer. I am also thankful to have such great friends that invite me to hunt and make me so welcome in their home.

Anyone hear of reports of Franklin County getting hit hard with cwd this year. I heard that it wiped out 75%of the deer population. Any word on what's what?

I've been checking the NC Sportsman, hoping to see pics of some great bucks, but there have been less posted here than I figured I'd see. I only hunt rifle, so no reports here. People just keeping to themselves?

I had been watching this buck all summer in Rockingham County via trail camera my girlfriend had given me for my birthday on Oct. 2.

He finally appeared about 10 minutes before last light.

I made a 20-yd shot but could not find the arrow or blood so I waited till the next morning and found blood and the arrow. He had run about 75 yds.

It was so awesome everything c....  Read More

There have been some giants taken early season in NC so far this year but judging by how it seemingly slowed lately and from what I've seen and witnessed for many years previous, we're well into the dreaded Oct. lull.. at least in the Piedmont. from my experience, that first cold snap in daytime temps. seems to kick em out of nocturnal-ness. Prob. not a word but any feedback?

Does anyone know of a small tract of land where a guy could take his future wife to teach her about hunting and maybe put a doe in the freezer near Lincolnton? I'm currently stationed in Qatar right now but will be home in a few weeks. I've lost my old hunting grounds to a high paying club and don't have anywhere to go. Not looking for charity... I'll pay for rights. I just want to enjoy my....  Read More

Well if you haven't heard and I'm sure you have.... The giant buck I have been after 3 years was killed Thursday morning by crossbow hunter Steven Davis of Davidson county about 5 road miles from where I got countless trail cam videos and pics of him but only about a mile as the crow flies. I talked to Mr. Davis Thursday night for a few hours and got the play by play and congratulated him. He....  Read More

I used preorbital scent from Smokey, and have used it for several years and it has brought in the does and then the bucks, of all ages. I am a firm believer in preorbital scent. I usually start it in July, and always keep very clean and I used it around field edges. I break some branches that are the right height. Always keep clean and use rubber gloves and boots. We have cattle so besides the....  Read More

I am in my third year of managing around a 200 acre parcel of property in Randolph County. If you can imagine my property being an island of hardwoods and creek bottom completely surrounded by ag fields, you have a pretty good idea of the area Iím hunting. My property is surrounded on three sides by soy bean fields, and on one side by corn, used mostly for silage. This creates ideal conditions....  Read More
