Deer Hunting in Western North Carolina

On June 14, 2015 our baby girl Ariel was born. She had complications after birth and she passed away on July 1, 2015. I had dreamed of taking both of my kids hunting. But God had much bigger plans for her short life. This deer season I was dedicating to her since I will not ever be able to take her hunting. On December 10th around 10am this 11 point deer came into the field chasing three does.....  Read More

The afternoon of November 21. The white 8 point buck had been seen in the area for the past three weeks. I went to the stand with no intentions of seeing this buck. Just before dark I heard something moving to the right of the stand I looked out of the box stand and was amazed at what I saw. The buck was no more that 50 yards from my stand in the cut over, I raised my 308 rifle and took the shot....  Read More

I was wondering what individuals views were on the regulations in place in our state such as buck harvest. Should this be one instead of two in the western part of the state and maybe two in the east? Should there be antler restrictions on the buck allowable for harvest in order to increase to the average buck age harvested from 2.5 to a 4.5? I believe the wildlife commission has it correct on....  Read More

My name is Skylar Martin. I took this massive 7 year old, 10 point buck on Novemeber 28th. I had been watching this deer on trail camera for the last 5 years and never seen him in person. it all started about a month and a half ago, when my dad (Dale Martin) had went hunting after work, and since it had been raining he got off early. Around 5:30 I had got a call that he had shot at a big buck....  Read More

Purchased a tree stand at the Feb. 2012 Harrisburg PA Sportsmans Show. I still have not received the stand or a refund. I have left countless messages for Robert Burns but he has not returned calls. Filed with the BBB and Kay Burns promised a refund several months ago, that still has not arrived.

Biggest deer I have ever gotten. Killed him Monday evening. Did not find him until Tuesday. Shot him at 320 yards with 308. The picture of him standing was taken 2 hours before I got him. The camera belonged to another hunter and is about 600 yards from where I shot him.

Killed this nice 8 point in Moore county on a late morning hunt when the moon was underfoot called him in and he was ready for a fight. Took him down with my 270 and dropped him right where he was standing. He weighed in at 164 and scored 141 3/8

200 lb 10 point. Typical 5 x 5. This deer came in at 6:30 am while hunting with my wife. He gave me a broadside shot at about 50 yards. After the shot I waited about an hour and found a little blood so decided to back out for 4 hours. When I came back my wife tracked light blood trail for about 75 yards where he was laying. Truly blessed to have taken such a beautiful animal and the best part is....  Read More

So I've been doing quite a bit of duck hunting and there have been several occasions that deer have walked up on us close enough to shoot but I have never taken a shot due to uncertainty. My question is to everyone... is it legal to shoot a deer with steel shot while duck hunting?

Haven't had much rut activity, but as the week moves on and it gets colder, I expect the rut to pick up. Many rubs and scrapes. Seen some really big does, but not any bucks chasing. I have waited to see if a buck would walk in. not a buck in sight. Have some really nice ones on the camera.

  • The Big 10
I was blessed to harvest this Wilson county buck with my black powder gun on the first Tuesday of the season. After getting many trail cams of this deer since August I was finally able to shoot him yesterday. He was a 4.5 year old 8 pointer last year and blew into a nice mature 5.5 year old 10 pointer this year. My wife Mollie and I had hunted him a couple of times during bow season seeing him....  Read More

  • 1-She senses danger
  • 2- She starts to blow
  • 3- Hard to see at this res. but the snot is really flying
Here is a sequence of a doe sensing danger, blowing the alarm and her snot and breath spraying into the air and hanging like a cloud from a steam engine. I think it's a pretty cool montage of something we all hate to hear :).

About this time last weekend, on opening day of bow season, I shot my biggest buck to date. I heard him and another buck sparring in the woods before stepping out into the field I was hunting. I shot him at 20 yards slightly quarting towards me with my Barnett crossbow. He ran about 70 yards and then slid down a gully into the creek.
Thanks to my hubby for watching our two little ones and....  Read More
