  • Another white bass caught on Lake Lure Fishing Excursions.
The white bass have finished their spawn. They are beginning to blitz the baitfish in 20 - 40 foot water. We've caught many on silver jerkbaits and shadraps. For a Lake Lure fishing excursion, this is the time to fish.

Can anyone tell me where to find the water temperature for the Cape Fear River at different locations. I am normally a saltwater guy but I need to learn how to catch some catfish to lower the 'fever' during these winter months. Thanks for your help.

  • Gary Hicks from WVA with a 12 lb. LKN striper that ate a live herring in 35 ft. of water in a major
  • Tim Ferguson of Denver with a pretty hybrid caught on a live shad.
  • Thom Bessette & grandson Foster with an 11 lb. LKN striper that ate a freelined live crappie.
The striper fishery on LKN may not be all the way back, but it's on its way. The new hybrids are doing great, with good topwater action many days. They can be caught deep on live bait or artificials when tehy are not near the surface. The stripers that remain are good size, for LKN, with 10-13 lb'ers mixed in with the 5-8 lb. fish. Though the hybrids are reaching legal length, please practice....  Read More

And I would be moving almost solely for the fishing. I don't have a boat down here yet or much money to cash out on a rental, but I do have my gear with me and my nc license. This is a 17 lb 10 oz Blue we caught today out of High Rock. He was caught in the main river channel on the bottom. He bit a 6 inch whole shad. I have fished for years in High Rock and this is only the second one we've ever caught. The other one was 5 lb and we caught him on a jug. We caught 15 cats today from 3:30 pm to 8 pm. Finally, my schedule and the calm seas met each other on the same day and made it possible to head offshore fishing. Gary and I met up with Troy Ham, Randall Knapp, Greg Bacento from Fayetteville, NC. Bryan Dedeaux from Laurel, MD. and Kerwin Steele from Garner, NC. It was beautiful morning with calm winds and a flat ocean. We made our way South around forty miles where the water had warmed up....  Read More

Even though the NE winds were blowing cold today we went fishing with Doug Secrest from Palmyra, VA., and his Dad, Bill Secrest from Greensboro,NC. We started off on the East side where we had been doing really good on the fish a few weeks ago. It didn't look the same as it had been, and the bite reflected this as well.

I made a move to another area, marked a lot of....  Read More

Someone ring the dinner bell. The fourth of the five-part Carolina Yakfish series is done and in the history books. Thirty-five anglers gathered from near and far to fish Lake Michie, North of Durham and nearest to the quiet town of Bahama. Created in 1926 as a water and hydroelectric supply to Durham City, Lake Michie measures 480 acres and is fed by the Flat River.

If polled, I believe....  Read More
