I don't know about anybody else, but the beginning of my turkey season was different like I have never seen it. April along the Roanoke River has never been as quiet, or as cold, as it was the first two weeks of the 2016 Turkey Season. I've heard people say there was no change in the way the turkeys acted, and then I've seen the older gentlemen scratch their heads at the lack of activity....  Read More

I killed this bird on April 19th in. 11 inch beard. 1 1/4 Spurs. Weighing around 20lbs. After hearing 4 birds that morning, I started working 3 birds but all of them had hens and wouldn't come. I kept hearing this bird gobble his head off. I knew he was hot. So I got up and started after this bird. After a long walk to get to him, a few yelps and soft clucks on the slate he came right in.

On April 18 I was able to harvest a nice Tom with a 10 inch beard and a little over 1 inch spurs. I was familiar with this bird because my dad and I got in him Saturday morning. He was very vocal and gobbling like crazy at every crow that 'cawed' that morning. We snuck in the woods and began calling to him which got a gobble each time. Once he flew down he gobbled several more times and then....  Read More

My wife Rhonda has been very, very blessed when it comes to deer hunting...but she's been totally 'snake-bit' as far as turkey hunting is concerned. That's fair enough I guess...it sort of balances out.

Actually though, Rhonda's turkey hunting 'career' started off with a BANG. She bagged a nice jake the very first time I....  Read More

My daughter has scored on opening day 3 of the last 4 years!! After our successful hunt I gave her a special call I had made for her. I also want to share the hunt in her own words as she shared it on FB: here's what she wrote........4th year in a row and 3rd down. As we walked across the field with excitement and eagerness, memories for another youth day were in the making. You see as we moved....  Read More

I have been turkey hunting in NC for many years, but really would like to take a trip out West such as Colorado or someplace different. My question is what guide service could I trust for a trip of a lifetime and what is the best place to go? I work hard for my money like everyone else and would like some honest opinions or advice. Have any of you taken a guided trip and what was the experience....  Read More

So he let out a gobble went into strut and then eased back in the woods. needless to say all the hens followed. this was only the beginning of the....  Read More

I was calling up a screaming tom and not knowing some hens and several toms were coming in toward my hunting buddy, which I could not see. I saw the hens heading toward the gobbling tom 'bang' turkey down. The tom was still gobbling and coming toward me...my buddy sat still as long as he could stand it. The shot tom started flapping around so he had to get up and retrieve him. The hens polled....  Read More
