Freshwater Fishing in Northeastern North Carolina
Can anyone tell me what times of the year are best for fishing at Lake Jordan. I have fished mostly spring and gotten cats, crappie and bass. Just wondered what kind of fishing there is in other seasons. I don't have a boat so mainly fish from the shore or pier. Thanks for the info.

Freshwater Fishing in North Carolina
It was about 11:45 Saturday morning when I cut the belly out of a large gizzard shad. It took about fifteen minutes until he bit the bait. I missed the first time but got him a minute later and was up against the fight of my life. It lasted about five minutes and he didn't surface till about the last two minutes. We had him up against the dock and got The Fish Grip on him. He weighed 46 pounds....  Read More

  • Gary Hicks from WVA with a 12 lb. LKN striper that ate a live herring in 35 ft. of water in a major
  • Tim Ferguson of Denver with a pretty hybrid caught on a live shad.
  • Thom Bessette & grandson Foster with an 11 lb. LKN striper that ate a freelined live crappie.
The striper fishery on LKN may not be all the way back, but it's on its way. The new hybrids are doing great, with good topwater action many days. They can be caught deep on live bait or artificials when tehy are not near the surface. The stripers that remain are good size, for LKN, with 10-13 lb'ers mixed in with the 5-8 lb. fish. Though the hybrids are reaching legal length, please practice....  Read More

  • 17 lb 10 oz Blue Cat from High Rock
This is a 17 lb 10 oz Blue we caught today out of High Rock. He was caught in the main river channel on the bottom. He bit a 6 inch whole shad. I have fished for years in High Rock and this is only the second one we've ever caught. The other one was 5 lb and we caught him on a jug. We caught 15 cats today from 3:30 pm to 8 pm. A few channels but mostly flatheads ranging from 5 pounds to 25.8....  Read More

  • Max Emerson, age 5, with his dad & 1st striper from Lake Norman.
  • Zoe Lail with an early winter LKN crappie.
  • Chris Hallman with a nice Lake James smallie caught at New Year's 2014.
Winter fishing is going very well at both Norman & James. On Norman, spotted bass, stripers, hybrids & cats are feeding aggressively on large schools of small shad & herring midway to the backs of major creeks in 20-50 ft of water. Match the hatch with live shad, herring or shiners fished throughout the water column as needed. Numerous artificials are effective - jigs, Alabama rigs,....  Read More

On My days off I've been Cat-fishing for some R&R (Rod&Reel)relaxation and recently caught my personal 2nd Best with this 48 Pound stud!!! My scales were acting funny being a 50 pound scale but after several readings between 46 and Error I split the difference and called him 48 Pounds. I caught a 54 Pound Flathead in 2011 from this pier and hundreds of pounds of 20s and 30s and all were....  Read More

Took several people out last night catfishing. We were after flatheads. Got about 6 of them but nothing over 20lbs. We did manage a 38lb bluecat. The kids had a blast with that. Using all live bait.

Went out with a good friend and Fly fishing guide Justin Anderson of Fontana Guide service and learned to Euro-Nymph, and was catching fish literally within minutes after not having casted a fly in 8-10 years - 2 men - 20+ fish in a couple of hours - great time on the river

I highly recommend these guys

Got the chance to take a little break from chasing gobblers and do a little fishing on Lake James. I've not been having great luck this turkey season so it was nice to have a good evening catching fish. We caught about 20 crappie and I caught a pretty nice bass. The crappie have been biting pretty good at night, but most are small. It was nice to spend some time on the water doing what I love.

Had the opportunity to crappie fish Lake James with a good fishing buddy, and of course I jumped at the chance since I've been wanting to go for a while. We caught 40 crappie. We could have probably caught a lot more but the minnows ran out. I kept enough of the larger ones for supper and we released the rest. It was a great night fishing. I can't wait to do it again soon.

I went to Weldon this pat Sunday with my 3 good friends, Skip, Jake and Brittany. We caught 45-50 stripers. Most were males 16-17 inches. We only had 2 in the slot. Here is Britt with our biggest fish of the day!
