  • Happy boy and proud Dad
Today started bad but ended awesome. My son couldn't find his face mask or shells. Finally found both but made us 20 mins late. Got to our spot and didn't hear a gobble, then started raining. Ugh. Stopped raining. Called softly and got a response. 6 hens, 1 jake, and a gobbler showed up. The tom followed the hens across the field right into our lap at about 735 am. 30 yd shot. 18 lbs,7/8'....  Read More

  • (2) toms in 1-hour
  • Tom #1
  • Tom #2
I was calling up a screaming tom and not knowing some hens and several toms were coming in toward my hunting buddy, which I could not see. I saw the hens heading toward the gobbling tom 'bang' turkey down. The tom was still gobbling and coming toward me...my buddy sat still as long as he could stand it. The shot tom started flapping around so he had to get up and retrieve him. The hens polled....  Read More

Has anyone been hunting in Holly Shelter gamelands. I have been a few time with my son and no luck. Had one coming in around us and a truck drove by road hunting and that ended that hunt. I have a couple of nice spots where hens are gathering and have seen a monster gobbler when I had not seen him before or even heard a gobble. I am deaf and only hear close gobbles so there is no use for me to....  Read More

Well i dont think i have to state the obvious. But down here on the coast the breeding is running a little late and its making for some slow hunts. All the toms ive been on are henned up bad and doing your typical gobble on the roost. They hit the ground and spend their day following hens and not saying to much else.i hunted saturday morning and got a nice bird. Saw him in a field around 7 the....  Read More

  • Bird No. 1 Down.
Took 3 long hours of working this bird hard Sat the 18th to seal the deal. I thought he was henned up as soon as he was off the roost and decided to hold off on pursuing for a bit. Had a few other hot birds close but appeared they were locked down with a cluster of hens as well. Had to almost double back twice on this guy, but it worked in my favor. Best part is my wife was along side to....  Read More

  • Scotland Neck Double
Friday Afternoon I, Scout and Judson Brock headed to their farm lease in Halifax County. After Judson and my double on opening day, our main goal was to fill one of Scout's tags and frankly, to have a good time camping out and getting away before Finals for Scout and I and before Judson's fishing charters picked up back in Wilmington. We all scouted Friday evening, and Scout glassed what....  Read More

A good buddy of mine, Judson Brock of Muddy Fly Guide Service and I headed to Ivanhoe, Nc for the opener saturday morning. We set up facing a Pine Savannah with a long lane that extended 300 yards to our left with a freshly turned over plot in front of us and another lane to the right with a grown up field behind us. Daybreak came with many different gobbling birds, and it was obvious we had....  Read More

  • Youth Hunt Gobbler
First ever gobbler taken during youth hunt. Spotted the gobbler about a half hour after sunrise. He was strutting for a hen in full display about 300 yards from us. About a half hour later a second gobbler appeared about 150 yards in the opposite direction and started putting on a show of his own. The first gobbler had enough of that after 10-15 minutes and bolted toward the other. I was....  Read More
