Anybody used these expandables? Got them at dicks for $15 a pack and wondered what any other users thought. Apparently they are made by rage, and are a blend of a rage and schwacker..... They have the cut-on-contact head of a rage, with the ferrule shape and wing blades of a schwacker.
Any thoughts?

Had the opportunity to take this guy Wednesday on the Mitchell River game land section. My second nice buck on game lands this year.

Long post but it was a crazy fun day, had to share.
So i checked the weather and saw that it was gonna be perfect for my favorite still hunting mountain in Watauga on Wednesday. Wanted some doe meat since I only have one buck tag left.
28 degrees at daylight and no wind. Left the house at 3:15 and parked the car at 4200 feet at 5:30. Made the 1.5 mile trudge up the mountain to 5300 feet.... Read More

I was just saying that in my opinion, I would have thought....
Been hunting all week near home in the Pisgah NF. It has been super slow. Hunted all of our stand-by spots and haven't seen anything but a few does. I walked 5+ miles over the past few days and haven't gone more than 30 yards without crunching acorns. In the 15 years I have been hunting this area there has never been near this many acorns. Late Report. Just moved to Winston-Salem in August This 8-pt came from the Perkins game land in Davie county. Shot him on 9/12 at 15 yards from my climber eating acorns. This is the only deer I've seen in 3 sits at this property. Saw his tracks near the same oaks during late August, and lucky for me he came out sporting all his velvet. Well I made the bold statement in March that I would kill a bird with the bow before picking up my gun this year...... It has been a long 5 days. Since Saturday I have had 7 toms and 5 jakes within .410 range, and only got drawn back once on Sunday morning which ended in a small amount of putting ;)

I know it took a while but here is the report for my '2011' bear kill even though it happened on the last day of season (1-2-12).

Went out for a freezing cold day of grouse hunting on Saturday. We went up to hunt off of the Parkway, but after 2 miles and the snow that piled up 3 inches while we were there, we came back off the mountain and went up into the Gorge where we heard some birds drumming during deer season. Has anybody else on here been grouse hunting much this season. We just got started after a rockin' bear season. (pics coming...). We've hunted one morning and killed the only bird the dog pointed. We're going tomorrow so we'll see whats shakin.

Had a great last day hunting Grouse up here in the mountains. Flushed 7, shot at 3, killed 2. The dog had a good day with 3 solid close holding points, and a winding point about 15 yards from a double flush. Lots of walking. Her Astro GPS collar logged 14 miles.Our GPS logged 7, with over 1600 ft elevation gain. Beautiful day to be on the mountaintops.

Well guys, I haven't had much time to hunt this season since I've been preoccupied with finishing up my Construction Management degree here at Appalachian. There are plenty of dogs on the game lands around here but hiking to a good setup is getting old in the snow. If any of you know of some farmer/ranchers who need a hunter just post on here and let me know. Also, if you have any hot leads on some land to Grouse hunt.... Read More

I was hunting over Thanksgiving near home in Northern Burke. The family shot a few good bucks over the week (including my niece's first buck). On Saturday the winds were blowing in the 40's on the mountain so my dad and I decided to hike down under the rim of the mountain to find a good deep hole to watch some oak trees. I used to use a lever action 35 shooting 200 grain....
