Huntman and I have been talkin' about gettin' a nice pellet rifle and recently bought a Gamo Bull Whisper (Bone Collector). It was $200 bucks and came with a scope (it does not have iron sights). Got it all set up and started trying to get the scope (Gamo 4x32) sighted in. I ended up having to get about 20ft from the target to start seeing where the pellet was even hitting. It was about 5....
We finally got Huntman's buck back this morning.
This is the biggest of the 2 bucks Hunter shot in the 2012 season. He was 1 month from his 13th birthday. We kept him in the freezer awhile and a friend that does taxidermy mounted him for us. The guy is from this area but moved to Colorado a year ago so he took this buck with him and brought it back. This buck has done some traveling. This....
Huntman and I, both green horns to turkey hunting, tried to get Huntman a gobbler last year. We got close a couple times but it just didn't work out.
We went this past Saturday (youth opener)w/ a good friend that was trying to help us get one called in for Hunter. We saw one but it was too far away and we couldn't persuade him to come check us out.
The rest of the week has been full of....
Been hunting hard for the last week but I've seen little action. This has left me with too much idle time to think up crazy stuff.
I've had these pipe fedders for awhile and there white so they kinda stand out in the woods - not that the deer care but I wanted something a bit more concealed so got an idea of how to dress them up a bit.
These are 6 inch pvc pipe (5' long), knock the lid....
This has been a strange season for me - really haven't seen many deer. I wonder if this fella and some of his kin are why.
I was hunting monday morning and caught this rascal slipping through the woods at about 7:30am. I gave him a 30.06 headache and he dropped in his tracks. This is my 1st yote. Put him on the scale and he weighed 42lbs - I don't know how big they get but he seemed like a....
Well folks I know absolutely nothing about all of these social media things - DramaBook, Instagram, etc but I guess it's a good thing for Hunter that his mom knows that stuff.
Sportsman Mag had a thing where you send a 'shout out' via Instagram for the chance to win a $100 gift certificate to the online store. So my wife sent this pic of Hunter's 1st bow kill and his photo was selected. I....
I have a new property owner next to me this year that decided he'd hang a stand right on the property line and about 30yds from a feed station we had set up. I'm sure he saw our corn and that's why he decided to set up there. Ain't nothin I can say, just kickin myself for putting it there in the first place but we've had a set up there for 5yrs or more and never have seen anyone.
We went this morning and I handed a parking ticket out to a doe but my son didn't see anything.
I thought it was too hot this afternoon but my son really wanted to go so guess what - we did. Got in the stands @ 4 and about 6:45 he text me that he just shot a doe. I told him to sit tight and I'd come to him when I got down at dark. When I got down I went to the house, got the 4wheeler, and....
Well I feel like I learned quite a bit in this process. Like when the bluing kit says 'don't short cut the preparation process or you'll regret it later' is NOT an exaggeration. LOL
When I first tried this it did not turn out very well. So I started over, and spent extra time sanding every little nook & cranny and then tried bluing it again.
The pics show how it turned out and how....
When I got home from work 2day Huntman asked if we could shoot the bows and I told him sure. We'd been shootin' for about 30 minutes when huntman got his first ever 'Robinhood'. He has a youth Hoyt Banshee and was shootin' from 25yds. I thought it was pretty cool and pretty good for a youngster. Now we've gotta get him a few more arrows cuz he has hung these in his room. lol
Someone posted this on CL -
'Be careful buying deer corn this year for $10.00-$12.00 a bushel or bag, Corn this year is expected to be around $5.00 a bushel. Remember a bushel of shelled corn weighs 56lb and bushel of cob corn weighs 72lb. Good Hunting'
Has anyone else heard that a bushel is projected to be $5 a bushel? Just seems to good to be true but I wish this was accurate cuz....
