  • Me and my wife headed out west for a few days and it was awesome.

    December 13, 2012 at 8:19pm

Shot him at 6:45pm with a Knight LKII .50 cal. shooting Barnes Expander Bullets. I had my son with me and we had been seeing deer since 4pm when we got in the stand. At around 6:30 a small spike came into the corn and a tall racked 5 pointer. My son looked at me and dad I see horns in the bushes, I asked where and he pinted to it and gave me the Bino's to see him. Sure enough it was the big 8 we had pics of. So as soon as he came out I was on him and then there was a cloud of smoke. The deer was about 50 yards when I shot and only ran about 30-40 yards.

Nothing better than getting a nice deer and having your kid with you.

Some are still in velvet and some have lost it...

    September 08, 2011 at 9:31pm

Hey, when should the deer start loosing there velvet..I always thought it was around this time. Last year I had picks of it coming off about 3 weeks before the season.

    August 24, 2011 at 7:41pm

I have been shooting more and more from 40 and 50 yards since I had a nice 8 walk 45 yards from me and I didn't feel good confident enough to shoot that far. That won't happen this year.

    August 21, 2011 at 8:59pm

Got some pics of some big does fighting and the bucks again..

    August 17, 2011 at 9:37pm

New sight at 40 yards..I heard the arrows hit so I shot my last one at the left bullseye. I just replace a sight that had .029 pins with a Truglo 4 pin .019 pins and it awesome. I was having problems with the pins covering the target at 40 yards.

Got some pics of a 2 more bucks...and a bunch of the big 8.

    July 29, 2011 at 8:47pm

Checked the camera this morning over 500 pics. All deer and a couple of a nice fox. James has started naming the deer. We saw one of the eights on our way in and he said 'dad, look it crook'. I am so glad he has taken such an interest into hunting.

    July 24, 2011 at 2:56pm

Had a good sunday, took my boy fishing this morning and had a blast he cought 50 or bream and then shot the bow this afternoon. I have been shooting more from 30 and 40 yards.

    July 17, 2011 at 8:22pm

Me and my boy went to check my camera today and had 268 pics in one week. Two nice bucks are showing every day and a bunch of does.

    July 16, 2011 at 3:29pm

Hey Viper, this is James's target from 30 yards with his Parker Crossbow I got him a few weeks ago.

    July 05, 2011 at 9:49pm

My boy wanted to fishing this morning and I asked him if he wanted to go to the beach or to a pond he said a pond. We had a blast he cought about 45 bream/bluegill in about 2 hours on crikets and worms.

    April 17, 2011 at 3:15pm

Man there's alot of birds going down. I haven't been turkey hunting since I lived in VA, but my son James saw all the pics on here this afternoon and said dad I wanna go turkey hunting. So we had to go to Dick's and get some decoys and it looks like I have plans for the next couple of weekends. I haven't even called in a turkey since 1998 but I'm sure its like riding a bike.

    April 11, 2011 at 9:42pm

Last year was a good year in the woods for me hope I can do the same this year.

    April 06, 2011 at 7:57pm

Went fishing in one of the local ponds today only had one bite....but I did get my Xmas present waxed today...

    March 13, 2011 at 7:54pm

Had a blast today my son got to meet Tiffany..Thats all he talked about all last week. Also some of the guys saw my tattoo on my arm and understand why my screename is Sharkbait

    March 05, 2011 at 8:02pm

I hunted this morning and saw nothing so I decided to get down around 9:30 and put some corn out and it paid off for the afternoon hunt. I got in my stand around 3pm and the deer started coming out around 3:30. I had 9 deer in front of me when I shot this 8. Not a bad buck for a late season deer. My goal for the next 3 days is to kill 1 maybe 2 does.

Rage makes a 2 blade broadhead just for lower poundage bows. Its what my wife shot hers with. She made a less than perfect shot and the deer ran about 300 yards.

I hunt in the Northeastern part of Pender County. Still hunting only no dogs and no clubs around that use dogs either. Not saying doghunting is bad, we just don't use dogs.

I pay around $1000 a year for dues plus I hunt about 45 miles away from home. But my club has a little over 4000 acres and not alot of members. Here are the last few that I have killed not to mention some nice does that go over 100lbs. Plus my son killed his first deer this year so its worth every penny to me.

This is the first year in about 4 years that I have actually been hunting with dogs. Until 2005 or so I had never been in a treestand to hunt, I have always been hunting with dogs or would go walking through the woods with a shotgun or my BP rifle (during the 2 week BP season up in VA). But I also had never hunted here in NC until 2005. Up in VA where I grew up and hunted you can only use a shotgun with buckshot, no slugs or rifles and the only time you can use a BP rifle is during the 2 week season for them. Also I have only been out in a stand 3 times since gun season started and have been dog hunting the last 3 saturdays. I hunted alot during the first part of the season with my bow and blackpowder and the only reason is b/c there isn't alot of people in the woods then.

We have been ontop of a dog box this year just as much as we have been up a tree. But the guys I hunt with we don't shoot everything that runs out infront of us just the other day we ran 10 deer and only shot at one and it was a nice 9 that was killed by a 13 year old girl with a 20ga. I hope doghunting doesn't go away but when I no longer have a choice I will probably give hunting up all together and just stick to fishing until they start telling me how I have to fish. I hunt alot more than most people do and spend alot of money on it every year for someone to tell me how I should/have to hunt.

As for James if he gets his way we will have a few dogs of our own next year. He is hooked on it just like I was when I was his age, I wouldn't trade the world for the look on his face when he hears those dogs strike-up and take off for the chase.

I stopped posting on here b/c of all the trash talking about dog hunting. It use to be a ok site to visit but now I only check it 1-2 times a week if that anymore. I don't hunt with dogs anymore but I grew up hunting with dogs in Virgina and don't care how people hunt aslong as its legal. I hunt in Pender County and people hunt with dogs around the land my club hunts but we have never had any problems with them they always ask if they can get a dog or if we have seen or heard them. But b/c a few people have bad a time with a few doghunters everyone who does it is bad. If you like hunting with dogs you will be part of the minority group on here.

A comment titled: Go with the .270 in response to a report titled: 270 or 300 mag

I just bought a Browning Abolt in .270 and I love it shots great and very accurate. 1 inch high at 100 yards and dead on at 200 and 5 inches low at 300yards. I was using a 7mm magnum which is as close to a 300 that you can get. 270 ammo is cheaper.
The good thing about a .270 is there are so many choices and weights in bullets to choose from. Its a great all around choice, I have a buddy that went elk hunting and the guides actually recomended him to bring a 270 with a bullet around 150gr.

A comment titled: 100 yards... in response to a report titled: Need Advice

I hunt with a Remington 700 in 7mm and shoot 150gr corelocks in it. But I can't wait to try my Browning Abolt in .270 with Hornady Super Performance 130gr. SST rounds I just got. I can't remember the last time I shot at a deer over 100 yards away so I zero everything in dead on at 100 yards.

If that deer was 30 yards in front of me.... I would hope there would be pics of me holding his head up on here..but I belong to a hunt club and if I would've let that deer walk someone else would take him.

All of the limbs and leaves that get blown into the water use the oxygen in the water to decompose. It also can be from alot of rain water messing with the ph levels in the water.

Its nice to see more military on this site. I would stay with something you can buy anywhere like a Core-lok or the Winchester SP2 round. If your like me then you have Army buddies all over the place and go hunting with them. I use 150gr Core-locs in my 7mm b/c I know I can find them at Walmart or any outdoor store. Get ammo that is easy to find anywhere also 100gr. Core-lok does just fine for NC deer.

Unless you hunt with dogs or have a group of buddies that do your wasting your time. And yes both of those areas are very pressured. There will be groups of guys lined up on there dog boxes every saturday...Even during bow and blackpowder your wasting your time. The dog hunters have been runnning there dogs out there every chance they get for the paste month or so.

I shoot a Knight MKII in 50 cal. with a 240gr. Barnes Expander MZ bullet and use 100grains of Tripple 7 powder the gun also has a 209 conversion kit. I shoot a 1 inch group at a 100yards and have never lost a deer, the bullets do an awesome job on deer. I have also been using this combo for 6 years and never changed anything.
