(def gotta get hog scale) But I'm sure it was in the 265-275 range, I know what a 300lb hog looks like when you see em layin there on the ground. My sow was bout 215-220. 2010-2011 Hunting Rule Changes Well, it's been 30 days since the NC legislative session began and had a chance to submit bills to disallow the NCWRC rule changes proposed last year. Of the 15 delayed hunting regs, 4 have been challenged and will therefore not be part of the 2010-2011 hunting season. The other 11 should be included in the regulations booklet. You can view the delayed changes on the NC wildlife home page(below), with H5, H26, H28 and H48 being challenged and therefore not included.

Hey NC Sportsman, it would have been beneficial if someone from your staff would have done some reporting on these matters.

Snow Hill Gobbler Took this tom on the last day of the turkey season in NC Saturday May 8, 2010. I patterned this bird over the previous 4 hunts. I set up a ground blind along a farm field road that the bird was using regularly. My friend and I got in the blind about 15 minutes before dawn. Around 6am the bird gobbled. I responded with a few yelps from my slate call. The tom responded immediately and I put the call in my bag. Told my friend I was going to take a nap while we waited for the bird to come in. We both dozed off for about an hour. When we woke up, the bird was with a hen about 20 yards from my tent. Mr. Tom was strutting for his live hen and my hen decoy that I placed 20 yards down the road away from the roosting trees. I filmed the tom for a minute displaying his stuff and then dropped him. Great way to end the 2010 turkey hunting season! Charles Bell Raleigh NC

Turkey Nice turkey i took Saturday April 24th at 7:15am. Really cool hunt. He came off the roost with some hens on a hillside, and after breeding one of the hens, he strutted down the hillside and flew across the creek to head to the field behind me and i was there to stop him. He was 21 lbs, thick 10in beard, and thick 1 1/4in spurs.

2009 Turkeys-Sorry forgot these I forgot to post these last year. But, anyway another great season in Rockingham County. Get your taxidermy done at Broken Arrow-Eric Knowles, Rockingham County. He has my birds from this year as well.
1) 23 pounds, 15 & 1/8 beard 'Hangin off the Tailgate'-shot some of it off. LOL.., 1.50 spurs
Another Good Tag 4-27-10. Called in 2 hens to lure this nice Gobbler. 22 pounds, 10 inch beard (3-4 finger thick), 1.25' spurs. Rockingham County. *Note-he only had 1 spur. Must have been fighting all the rest.
Dad's first Longbeard This was one of the most stubborn birds I have ever encountered. He had another tom, a jake, and a hen with him. As we were walking back to the truck on May 1st, two toms lit up and were gobblin there heads off about 40 yards from us. We were walking down a farm path in the woods and the toms were out in the field just through the woods. I about had a heart attack because we never heard them until we got right beside them. We were going around to set up and we came across 3 jakes feeding in another field so we backtracked to another path and I got my dad sat up right on the edge of the farm path and the field. They were about 60 yards away then. I called and here they came. They walked in circles, strutted, and gobbled for 45 minutes at 15 yards!!! 5 more steps in the direction they came and it would have been over in a couple min but they liked where they were at. They finally started to walk off and I told my Dad to lay down and crawl out into the opening so he might could READ MORE ....

Son's first Turkey We got out the truck this morning about 6:00 and headed out to find us a Gobbler. We walked all the way around a freshly planted corn field and the woods were silent so I blew in the old hoot tube a couple times and we heard him,so we headed on to the corner of the field right next to an old logging road and set out our decoys. My buddy Deerslayer called a few times and we could tell he was moving our way.We didnt get any more answers so we double teamed him,Deerslayer Yelped and I gobbled shortly after we heard him walking in the woods right beside us.My Son wispered to me that he could see him so I told him to get ready. The big boy came out the woods wide open going strait for the decoy. We saw the monster beard waving so I give my boy the ok to shoot when he was ready and not long after old Tom struted around the decoy he was laying next to it!!!!Perfect shot on his first bird and we ran in the field yelling....he shot an awesome bird with an 11' beard,1 1/8'spurs and weighed 20.8 lb READ MORE ....

Daughter's First Turkey It was begining to look pointless. We hadn't seen anything. We hadn't even heard anything. My daughter was getting disappointed. She was growing more frustrated by the hour. Every shot was like a stone in our stomachs. We were both about ready to throw in the towel.
We had gone all the way up to Lenoir county for this hunt. We got there the Friday before youth day and fished in the ponds. We ate good that night. We went to bed early with full stomachs and high hopes.
When we got up, we headed straight for the blind. As the sun came up, we heard a few gobbles, but nothing encouraging. I tried calling but nothing would come in. We heards shots all through the morning. When we got back, we had lunch then went back out.
We went to a different blind. Again, we didn't hear much. Shots were fired all around us. Bored and disappointed, my daughter started playing with my phone. Then we heard a gobble. I used my mouth call and answered it. It gobbled back. I called again. Nothing. So I st READ MORE ....

2nd Turkey for 2010 Season Me and this turkey have played cat and mouse with each other. He was always a step ahead of me. Did not matter what time I went he would already be out there. I took the long approach this time and slowly and quietly walked through the woods for probably 250 yards before coming out about where I had last seen him. It was about 1:00 p.m. when I got there. It took me about 25-30 min to reach the small field I was hoping he would work his way to. Well, he and his ladies where there. I crawled on my belly to about 30 yards. Got up one my knees and clucked a couple times and waited for that red head to pop up. As soon as it did I made the shot and dropped him. He weighed 19.4 lbs, had a 10.25' beard, and had 1 1/4' Spurs. My 2010 turkey season is complete!

Tough Tom Bird taken in Caldwell Co. at John's river near Globe mountain/Collettsville area.
Tom and 2 hens left the field, got spooked. We had 2 toms talking by 5pm and then a hen showed and didn't like the decoy. 5 min later here comes the tom looking for a hen. He hung in there for a few minutes, but no shot yet. He started to slip away and we did some light clucks and purrs and he started back in and at 40 yards he hit the dirt! The ol' 11-87 busted another one. My father-in-law and me called him one in earlier Thursday morning. This tom was not a heavy bird 17lbs 6oz, 9 1/4 beards, 1 in spurs. 3y bird. My father-in-laws was about the same, just a pound heavier. Those mountain toms aren't easy to hunt!

He weighed 23lbs, 9 1/2 inch beard and 1 1/2 inch spurs.

range in Triangle area? I just moved into the Triangle area and am looking for a place to do a little target practice. I'm really only looking for a 100 yard range. I also don't have a whole lot of cash to join a private gun club right now.
Has anyone been to the Buckhorn Rifle & Pistol club in Mebane?
