Score?? Got a snap shot of this deer back in 2008 and haven't seen him since. Seen his tracks but were made at night last year. Any thoughts of how to get him in daylight?
'Sasquatch ' I had been hunting this buck due to enormous tracks he left in 2008, but never saw him. We named him sasquatch. Last year was my first year using a trail cam and there he was on Dec 24th!. Never harvested in 2009, he should be a whopper this year. I hope to have more trail cam pics soon with my new camera and then harvest shots for your bag-a-buck contest after that!
Fishing the SE Coast Sometimes we get so hung up on all the special gear and boats it takes to catch fish, we forget we used to go fishing just to go. The past couple of weeks I have been revisiting some places where we have to fish from docks or the bank or sometimes wade.
The puppy drum have rewarded us well. Sure it's difficult to cover much ground, but with some patience and working through a tide change or two, you can usually find a window when the fish move through. The pup in the pic was foraging along a little rip when he couldn't refuse a new penny Gulp suspended under a popping cork.
Within a hundred yards of where this fellow bit, we have caught several more pups, a few specks and s few short to keeper flounder. All have been caught on artificial baits fished slowly. The artificials have ranged from an Aqua Dream Spoon, to jerkbaits, MirrOlure MirrOdines and Gulp shrimp.
The point I'm trying to make is there are some scattered fish to be caught in many places if you will take t READ MORE ....
Western North Carolina Fishing 9-7-10 Water levels remain disturbingly low throughout much of Western North Carolina as the dog days of summer drag along.
Many streams, namely the Davidson and South Toe Rivers, are flowing at 25% of their normal output. With these streams so dry, very little oxygen exists in the water. Luckily nighttime temperatures have been on the decline for nearly a week, slowly bringing water temperatures down and oxygen levels up. That being said, these streams should be given a rest until substantially cooler temperatures and hurricane season rain arrive in the mountains.
The tailwater streams of eastern Tennessee offer the draught-plagued N.C. angler a welcomed respite from the stifled fish of the high country. The South Holston and Watauga Rivers consistently provide anglers with quality fishing even during the hottest parts of the year. Because the streams receive the majority of their flow form the bottom of reservoirs, the water remains a perfect temperature for trout year-round.
Wrightsville Beach, NC Inshore Fishing Report Hello folks, I hope everyone is well and looking forward to some cooler weather, that we should have soon; I am! If we can just keep these storms away I think its going to be a good fall fishing season. The fall mullet run has started and with that the fishing should really pick up.
Flounder have been a big part of our charters lately. We are catching numbers and there size is getting better too! We’ve caught a few Flounder in the last two weeks over five pounds. Most of the action is coming off Mud minnows and small finger mullet have been the best baits for us lately. Rigging the live bait on carolina rigs with EC 042 1/0 hooks and thirty to forty pound mono or Fluorocarbon leaders. On the artificial side of things; jig heads rigged with Berkley Gulps new Mud minnow/croaker pattern have been great for our Flounder trips in the last few weeks. Also the Gulp Ripple Mullet and the Gulp Jerk shad have caught some bigger Flounder too.
Redfish on Fire after Earl Passes Off Wrightsville Beach Hi Folks,
Time for a fishing report. It's a bit abbreviated due to Earl, but some real positives are happening; like the awesome redfish action we experienced Sunday morning. Then there is the big Spanish bite going on right now. And more....
Now here's my report:
Inshore: The Redfish are biting. We caught and released several very nice fish Sunday ranging for 4+ to 8 pounds. As usual, the lady on the boat did the most work. Flounder are biting very nicely in the inlets, the ICW, Snow's Cut and the River.
Near Shore: Spanish and blues are biting hard. Shark fishing is going strong.
Offshore: Not many reports coming in as yet, but those that are state lots of bait pods are around which means the kings cannot be far away. AJ's still hanging on the offshore reefs.
Gulfstream: No reports.
Upcoming: It's getting so close, fall fishing, I can almost smell the fresh crisp air. As a matter of fact, I will smell it for sure this Friday thru next Wednesday as I make a tr READ MORE ....

Hunting Deer in Central North Carolina
Trail Cam Contest I was checking out the pics that have been entered in the trail cam contest and there are some really great ones. However I don't think it is very appropriate to be entering photos in the contest that were taken in yrs prior to this yr. I sincerely hope that the NC Sportsman staff will not choose a pic from yrs other than this one as one of the top three of the month for us to vote on. And if they due i sincerely hope the users will not vote on pics taken in previous yrs. Again I want to say there are some really great pics posted and good luck to all those posting pics taken this yr. Also good luck to everyone this hunting season as it looks like it could really be a great one.

Got Piebald! Well almost.....seems that the hunter shot the front left leg up pretty good, on the second shot. First shot was a heart shot but he kept on running soooooooooo.....
Anyways my cousin Kenny Hollingsworth, seen in the picture runs East Coast Taxidermy and has been waiting for the time to mount this deer because of the degree of difficulty and the cousin discount of course. He mounted him this past Monday and I just found the time to go see it tonight. He said I need a new front left leg because the other couldn't be saved....as you can see in the picture.
Thank you Kenny and God for a beautiful deer.
Dove Opening Day Dove Season Started off Slow. I Was Hunting at Indain Trail Dove field In Durham. But Around 3:45pm The Doves Started Flying, But They Were Flying Over FlatRiver Dovefield, And Waterfowl Impoundment, Only Saw A Handful Of Doves And I Bagged One. Was The Slowest Opening Day Ever, not sure Why. Hopefully Today Will Be Better, But I Still Had Good Fun, Always Do.
Bucks Updated! Posted Pics of these Bucks back in June and Wanted to Share an update
The seven with the tall rack is nicknamed 'Gun Slinger' because we thought he was going to be a big 6 ( and I am a big fan of westerns) .
the Big Eight Point right now does not have a name, I have been Deer hunting for over ten years and other than a small six point , I only have two spikes and a lot of does. this eight is the deer of my dreams, Right now.. I cant pick one name that sums him up!
Also they are running with a small 3 point that a female friend of mine has nicked named 'Gator' I have tons of pics of this buck.. and have been given strict orders that no matter what size buck he ends up growing he's off the hit list cant win em all...
Anyway Good Luck to everyone as the season gets closer.. Hunt Hard and Be Safe!
Find the thickest place where the briars are ridiculous, probably near some dens....
