Photo by Jerry Dilsaver Participants at the Becoming an Outdoors Woman workshop will have the opportunity to learn many things about all kinds of outdoor activities.

The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission will present their Becoming an Outdoors Woman (BOW) program on June 2 to 4 at the Eastern 4-H Environmental Education Conference Center near Columbia, NC.

The BOW workshop will begin with registration on Friday morning and then offer sessions on Friday afternoon, Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.

Intro to GPS
Wilderness Survival
Intro to Fly-Fishing
Sound and Stream Ecology
Intro to Archery
Bears
Camping and Backpacking
Orienteering
Bird Watching Basics
Little People Outdoors

Several of the more popular topics are repeated and either the Firearm Safety course offered Friday or a hunter education course, NRA course, 4-H shooting course or other approved shooting experience is required for any of the courses involving shooting firearms.

Space is limited and the workshop is limited to 85 ladies. The registration fee is $185. A completed registration form, with a brief medical history, is required of all applicants. Questions regarding the BOW program or this workshop may be directed to B.B. Gillen, 919-707-0172 or 919-218-3638.

Participants will be housed in executive lodges with hotel style rooms. The BOW staff will try to accomodate anyone with special needs.

Demonstration equipment will be provided by the BOW program. Participants may bring their own fishing or archery gear, but no firearms. All firearms will be provided by the BOW instructors.

Classes will be outdoors and hands-on. Tennis shoes or hiking boots are appropriate footwear and long pants are encouraged for protection agains insects and brush. It is recommended participants bring rain gear, insect repellent, a second pair of shoes, sunscreen, sunglasses and a flashlight.

Linens are not provided. Participants should bring their own towels, sheets, blankets, pillow or a sleeping bag.
