The second cast was right on target to tame this 11-pound 3-ounce lunker
The second cast was right on target to tame this 11-pound 3-ounce lunker

Jeremey Revis of Reidsville does a good bit of fishing and hunting with buddy Hunter Huffines. Back in March, they were trolling around a farm pond in a johnboat on a cold and overcast day, and the big bass were really turned on.

No fish took his first cast, but Revis made a second one and caught and photographed an 11-pound, 3-ounce lunker that was voted as the most remarkable bass photo from April in the Big Bass Contest.

“That fish was caught on a Saturday morning in March, and it was a little chilly,” Revis said. “Hunter made his first cat and caught a small bass, and then I put my second cast right where he caught his fish and, wham, I knew instantly that I had a good fish.”

Revis said the pond is in Rockingham County, and that he was throwing a Bomber shallow-diving crankbait.

“It was probably one of the best bass-fishing days that we have ever seen,” Revis said. “I caught the 11-pounder and another 6-pounder, and Hunter caught a 7-pounder and another 6-pounder.

“We let all of the fish go since they are growing so big in this small pond.”

The anglers keep a digital scale with them so they can weigh their fish. They have fished a few times since March, but they took a break to get in some turkey hunting in April.

Revis said he had been on the NorthCarolinaSportsman.com forums before, but that he saw the big bass contest publicized on Facebook and decided to enter his photo titled “2nd Cast Hoss.”

Revis will receive a one-year subscription to North Carolina Sportsman magazine and a $25 Sportsman Outdoor Store gift coupon good for all manner of Official Sportsman Gear.

He will also be entered in the big bass finals later this summer, with the winner winning a Shimano Caenan 100 reel valued at $90. Anyone can enter the Big Bass photo gallery, but only registered members like Revis are eligible to win prizes.
