A huge field of 270 teams from six states turned out to support the March 8 Jim Ledbetter Memorial/Jimmy V Foundation Charity Bass Tournament at Lake Norman.

The benefit event raised more than $40,000.

James Blankenship of Lexington won the first-place prize of $5,000 at the Feb. 9 Bassmaster Weekend Series North Carolina Division event at Lake Norman with a five-fish tournament limit weighing 13.09 pounds.

Peter Thliveros, also known as Peter “T,” won the Jan. 17-19 Bassmaster Southern Open at the St. Johns River, Palatka, Fla.

His three-day catch of 55-03, bolstered by a 26-pound haul during the final round, paid $50,657.

Two Tar Heel fishermen were named co-anglers of the year in their respective divisions of the 2007 Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League.

Brian Adams of Fayetteville, who served in Desert Storm and was stationed at Fort Bragg, topped 193 co-anglers from six states to win the award in the North Carolina Division of the Wal-Mart BFL.

Beaufort’s Jeff Coble will be competing in his third Bassmaster Classic after receiving an invitation to the prestigious event by winning the Nov. 14-17 Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Weekend Series at Clarks Hill Lake, S.C.

Patrick Wooten of Wake Forest won the Sept. 29-30 Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League Piedmont Division Super Tournament at Lake Gaston with 29-11 and received $5,741.

Two Shelby anglers earned checks at the Aug. 2-5 Forrest Wood Cup event at Lake Ouachita, Ark.

Bryan Thrift, Gain Rookie of the Year, received $50,000 for his fifth-place finish among the pros with a four-fish catch weighing 9 pounds, 12 ounces, and Matt Arey banked $4,000 for his eighth-place finish among the co-anglers with one bass weighing 1-9.

Eric Moser of Salisbury cranked his way to victory at the June 16 Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League N.C. Division tournament at High Rock Lake.

His five-fish catch of 15 pounds, 12 ounces was taken with a green crankbait and paid $4,177.
