Eric Rothrock of High Point rocked the field with a stunning catch of 23 pounds, 12 ounces to win the May 22 FLW Bass Fishing League Piedmont Division tournament on High Rock Lake. His haul, worth $4,037, was anchored with a 6-pound, 6-ounce bass.

Wadesboro’s Terry James probed the bushes at High Rock Lake with a crawdad-colored Shooter jig to win the April 10 Bassmaster Weekend Series event. James caught a 5-fish limit weighing 19.19 pounds, anchored by a 7.18-pound bass, to claim the first-place prize of $2,614.

Hank Cherry of Maiden and Shane Lineberger of Lincolnton topped a field of 189 teams in the March 14 Jim Ledbetter Memorial Team Bass Tournament at Lake Norman, a tournament that raises money for The V Foundation for Cancer Research.

In 2005, three Desert Storm veterans, Hal Abshire, Bob Cunningham, and Greg Lahr, thought of a way of honoring military personnel who had served their country.

The Southern Championship Fishing Trail’s Yadkin Spring Series opener at Badin Lake has been switched to March 13 to March 14 to avoid conflicting with the March 13 Jim Ledbetter Memorial Cancer Benefit Tournament at Lake Norman.

Near-freezing temperatures, a cold rain and the threat of snow probably discouraged a number of anglers from fishing the Wishing Well Bass Tournament on Dec. 5 at Lake Tillery.

Charlotte’s Shane Lehew won the Sept. 26-27 Walmart BFL’s North Carolina Division Super Tournament with a 2-day catch of 22 pounds, 6 ounces, winning $5,270.

Lexington’s David Wright won the Aug. 29-30 Bassmaster Weekend Series event at High Rock Lake with a 2-day haul of 41.34 pounds, bringing in 21.95 pounds on Saturday and 19.39 pounds on Sunday.

Dale Hege and Wayne Lawson of Ramseur had a couple of big days on Tuckertown Lake, winning a new Piedmont Team Tournament on July 25 and finishing second on Aug. 8. Wolak cashes twice, remains in hunt for berth in Classic

Two pro fishermen from North Carolina placed in two different BASS events in mid-August, and two others each picked up a check.

Salisbury’s Spence Brunson won the June 27 Wal-Mart BFL North Carolina Division tournament on High Rock Lake with a 5-fish limit that weighed 22 pounds, one ounce.

Chris Brown finished second in the American Bass Anglers tournament on Tuckertown Lake in mid-April with 18.35 pounds, including these lunkers. Lambeth scores big check at Kerr BFL
August 2009
George Lambeth of Thomasville took the first-place prize of $4,359 at the June 13 Wal-Mart BFL Piedmont Division event at Kerr Lake. His haul of 15 pounds, 12 ounces was caught on jigs.
