Andy Efird waited until almost the last minute to make his 2009-10 hunting season a successful one.

He shot a big 9-point buck on Dec. 31, but he didn’t find it and finish it off until New Year’s Day — just in the nick of time to get it entered in North Carolina Sportsman’s final monthly Bag-A-Buck contest.

The North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries director has proposed closing a large section of the state’s estuarine waters to large-mesh gill nets between May 15 and Dec. 15, according to the Coastal Conservation Association of North Carolina.

There seems to be some confusion between President Obama and some of his appointees. As the president was attending a jobs forum in Michigan and challenging the public sector to be open and receptive to new ways to put Americans back to work, his appointees at NOAA Fisheries were posting a notice of another fishery closure that will put thousands of recreational and commercial fishermen out of work for at least six months and probably longer.
