Commercial fishermen in the Pamlico Sound and the northern portion of Core Sound had until midnight this morning to remove all anchored, large-mesh gill nets from those waters due to interactions with sea turtles, the NCDMF announced.

After several years of limited weekend fishing, the South Atlantic Fisheries Management Council announced today that there will be no red snapper season in federal waters in 2015, because the total number of fish removed from the population in 2014 exceeded the allowable harvest.
