For the fifth consecutive year, 704 Outdoors will be holding their annual Carolina Coyote Classic next month. The tournament will begin on Feb. 9 and end on Feb. 11. And this year’s event will be the biggest one yet.
Five years ago, 704 Outdoors put together a local coyote hunting tournament to bring like-minded sportsmen together in an effort to help control coyotes in the area around Stanly County, N.C. It didn’t take long for the tournament organizers to see that this idea was much bigger than they imagined. It’s grown every year in terms of participation and in prizes offered, and this year is no different.
This tournament is no longer just a Stanly County event. Hunters from both North and South Carolina have participated in this event in the last couple of years, and it will be open to hunters in both states again this year.
No matter where you’re hunting during the Classic, you can submit photos for each coyote killed throughout the tournament, but all coyotes must be at the American Legion Post 76 in Albemarle, N.C. before Sunday, Feb. 11 at noon. Submitting photos each day of the tournament helps keep a running tally, and lets the tournament organizers see where each team stands, but each coyote must make it to the scales, which are open on all three days of the event.
While many hunters across the Carolinas have their own leads on land to hunt for the tournament, the 704 Outdoors crew is doing Land Leads, which will help team up experienced hunters with landowners that know they have a coyote problem. This helps the landowners and hunters, and also furthers the tournament’s goal of controlling predators. And they don’t get a landowner’s address and send just anyone down to shoot the place up. It’s a win-win situation.
Landowners and hunters can find out more about the Land Leads program by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
