At the end of the fifth day of competition in the 2018 Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament, the top three spots remain unchanged from day three. No blue marlin were caught on day four, and although one was weighed on day five, it failed to qualify due to being underweight.
Honey Hush still leads with its 518.5-pound blue marlin, and Game Changer is in second place with the 409.2 pounder they reeled in on Tuesday. Rare Breed is in third place after bringing in a blue marlin that weighed 400.4 pounds on Wednesday.
Friday, Dunrite put a blue marlin in the boat at 11:50 a.m., and brought it to the scales about 2 p.m. Unfortunately, the marlin weighed only 359 pounds, short of the required 400-pound minimum weight limit.
The tournament wraps up on Saturday with boat out fishing from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
In the Billfish Release category, Wall Hanger leads with 1325 points followed by Shifting Gears with 1200 points. Shenandoah is third with 1050 points. Release points are given based on how many billfish each boat has released throughout the tournament.
The Heaviest Dolphinfish category is currently led by Goombay after boating a whopping 71.1-pound fish, followed by No Problem’s 57.5 pounder. Eye Catcher is in third with a 41.1 pound dolphin.
Reel Country leads the Heaviest Tuna calcutta with the only tuna weighed so far, a 19.9 pounder.
The Heaviest Wahoo award is currently led by Sarcastic, with a 74.4-pound fish, followed by Carolina Time’s 42.2 pounder. Sandra D is in third with a 26.3-pound fish.
